Nov. 4th, 2005 04:28 am Wow.

Well, after much proding and poking, I have finally been forced to update my livejournal. To sum up the months that have passed after my last real entry, let me just say this. Life rocks! Over the summer, I got an awesome job setting up industrial lighting and sound equipment for a company called Band Aid Inc, Int'l'. They are awesome people, and I really enjoyed working for them, as I learned an incredible amount about a subject I am vastly interested in. We worked a lot of concerts over the summer, as well as a large number of corporate events, including the pistons playoff games. We are the company that shoots off the large flames in pregame, just so ya know. Anyway, as the end of the summer ran nearer, my trip to Europe was fast approaching. My youth group went for world youth day, in a pilgrimage to see the Pope in Cologne, Germany. Besides Cologne we also visited Rome, Vatican City, Assisi, Florence, Paris, and Duesseldorf. It was an amazing trip, but to top it all off I met an amazing girl. Traveling with our youth group were two other groups, one from Pennsylvania and one from Port Huron. She was with the Port Huron group. Her name is Kate, and I love her. She is amazing, and is everything I could ever ask for in a woman, a best friend, and a love. After the trip, school returned back to my normal grueling schedule, but it's worth it. Every weekend I usually drive up to see her at her parents house in P.H., and the gas is killing me, but it's killing me to be without her, so the choice is easy. Well, that's all for now... Everybody who reads this (both of you), will probably think I've totally lost it, and gone soft. That may not be far from the truth. *sigh* Maybe I'll try to update more often than once every 4 months, maybe not. Untill then, buhbye.

Mar. 18th, 2005 06:03 am I'm tired

Just finished writing another damn paper for Lit 102. That class makes me wish I had cancer, which would probably be less painful.

I have my marimba lesson today at 12, so in a bit I'll go and practice for like 3 hours, because I haven't yet this week. I hate scales, especially 2 octave harmonic minor ones at 100. It's gonna suck, and Prof. Dorsey will most likely whack me on the back of the head every time I make a mistake or look down at the marimba keys because it's hard to jump an octave and a minor 6th without looking down. (Erica and all my perc homies will back me up on this one.) Oh well.

I think I killed my knee hauling drums around campus, back and forth from my dorm room to the music building... it only hurts when I walk. It's worth it though, 'cause playing on the school's drums is so much crappier than on mine, and since my music locker is about 4 inches wide, I keep them here in my 12'x14' cube of a dorm. Scott doesn't seem to mind though, and that's good.

I have a gig at St. Raymond's for Easter, so that will be awesome. I love money. I can't believe it's still snowing...the day after St. Patrick's day. Easter is in about a week and it's been snowing all night. Michigan is so fucked up.

Me and Scott went apartment hunting the other day. That was cool. I was blown away at how much room there was to move around. It's crazy... I wish I had some beer. Spent all of St. Patrick's day sober. Damn. Just about half the people in the music building this morning were already wasted at 8 o'clock (5 cent beers at the Wooden Nickel all day!), so it was kinda fun just watching them make asses of themselves.

The job hunt is also on for this summer. I really want to get a lifeguarding job at a park like Metro Beach or maybe at the Lifetime Fitness center near here. It would really be ideal, since I get about double the minimum wage for sitting on my ass watching some kids splash around in the pool. Or even at Metro Beach, chances of me actually having to save someone are about zero, on behalf of the recent decline in lake levels. The water is less than 5 feet deep way way out, about 200 feet.

Either way, it's a cushy job, and should give me the flexible hours I would need to still make all my priority gigs with our combo, previously known as "The Geriatric Raspberries" and now the more toned down "Harmonies At Length" in honor of the HAL 5000 computer in "2001: A Space Odyssey." Yes, we're dorks. However, we used the HAL acronym because of the gigantic size of our keyboardist electric keyboard, which seems to have us all under its mind control. At least we got the name down on paper so TJ, our trumpter player and record label connection, could finish outlining our contract.

This whole demo recording business is really starting to get me frustrated, as the date keeps getting pushed further and further back. I remember back in November when the set date was mid Feb., now it seems to be set for April 2nd. I'm fine either way, but I really can't wait untill we get a couple of solid paying gigs under our belt. On the bright side, though, we are scheduled for at least two weddings over the summer, and several smaller gigs in between.

We did have to fire our bassist, which made me sad. She was nice, and really talented, but was going home over the summer to Maryland, and couldn't keep on practicing with us. TJ said he's going to UofM sometime next week to scout out some of their bassists, but who really knows? Personally, I really liked having a bassist, and don't know if we'll have one anytime soon. For one, a good bassist should be able to keep time without me, which really frees up my creativity, and I can add a couple of odd measured bars to switch the beat around whenever I damn well feel like it, all without the band falling apart. Although Mark is an excellent piano player and is more than competent at playing the bass lines himself on HAL, he shouldn't have to, and having a bassist would really free him up as well. Arrghh! Enough ranting. I need new cymbals. (about 600 dollars, for those of you who were curious.) Need some money.

I promise to update more often, but this one was rather lengthy and should keep everyone up to date for at least a couple days anyway.

      Off to practice.

Jan. 29th, 2005 12:23 am Yes, it's true. Chris Mutha Fucking Deroche is ALIVE!

To respond to the recent inquiries as to my present condition, I am alive. Also, Becca, -1 F is about -18 C. And Barth, I love you too. College is cool, except for all the classes. I hate getting fucked in the ass by the university just because I'm a music student. I have 7 classes on Monday and Friday, 5 classes Tues. and Thurs., and 8 classes on Weds. All this for a cool 19 credits just so I can graduate in about 3.5 years. Anyway, everything else is cool. My dad is back from Iraq, so I'm happy about that, and I haven't ended up passed out naked in anybody else's bathroom since this summer, so things are excellent. Also, it turns out, I'm awesome at bouncing a quarter off a table into a cup. Who knew? Someone stole my dry erase board. Those bastards will PAY! Probably not, since I have no idea who did it. Right now, I'm looking around for an apartment to rent for next year, I gotta get out of this dorm. I got a new drumset for Christmas, so that's awesome. It came at just the right time too, since our 5 piece jazz combo, the "Geriatric Raspberries", practices about twice a week. We have several potential gigs lined up, and are gonna cut a demo cd in february. Anyway, I just got a new Dream Theatre CD, they are amazing. Anybody who hasn't heard them play SHOULD. It blows my mind. Gotta go. I have more of NOTHING to do. bye

HASH(0x8b48384)
You are Jack the Ripper. Yours were some of the
most brutal murders recorded in history--yet
your case is still to this day unsolved. You
came from out of the fog, killed violently and
quickly and disappeared without a trace. Then
for no apparent reason, you satisfy your blood
lust with ever-increasing ferocity, culminating
in the near destruction of your final victim,
and then you vanish from the scene forever. The
perfect ingredients for the perennial thriller.
You are quite the mysteriously demented?

Nov. 21st, 2004 04:24 pm NO MORE MARCHING BAND

It's over! It's finally finished... that is, until next year. But for now, I can resume a state of temporary sanity, for marching band has finally succummbed to the deathly grips of the winter season, and the second semester. Free time on Mondays, free time on Wedsnesdays, free time on Fridays, sleeping in on Saturdays... I don't know what to do with myself anymore! It's a beautiful thing. In other news, my dad will be coming home in like a month from Iraq, and I'm super excited to be seeing him again. But before he gets home, I'll still be having a teleconference with him and my family Wednesday morning downtown, so that should be fun as well. Thanksgiving break is fast approaching, and on Wednesday after the teleconference with my dad, I'm going to Toronto with the rest of my family and Maƫlle, so that is gonna be lots of fun. I love Canada, mostly because drinking is fun. Also, sometime after that I am going drum shopping, I love drum shopping!!! SO....untill I feel the sudden urge to write down some random thoughts and feelings again, this will have to do for Becca to fill up that pathetic void in her life that only will be fulfilled by reading Chris's livejournal...jk. Anyway, I'm out, gonna go get some free food at the band banquet.

Oct. 31st, 2004 11:22 pm The Grand Opening

Hello, and welcome to, I Have No Life, a journal regarding Chris Deroche's intensely retarded class schedule, and various other things from time to time. I decided to finally get off my ass and join the livejournal bandwagon because of some peer pressure from Becca. For almost a year now I have held my resolve, and resisted the popular surge toward blogging. Oh well, I probably won't ever update it anyway. I still win! Anyway, lately I've been feeling poor. I have no money. Only like 14 bucks in my checking account, and I can't withdraw that because the douche bank will fine me like 28 dollars. I need a job. But therein lies the eternal enigma of school. I have like 80 million classes, so I can't get a job during the day. However, the only places that are open during the later hours of the afternoon (i.e. 7-12p) are off campus. I don't have a car, and the only way to get a car is to have money. Ouch. Thus constitutes the vicious cycle that is my life. Oh, and happy Halloween.
